The terno is one of the wonderful costumes in the Philippines. So when I was approached by the DLS-College of Saint Benilde -School of Hotel and Restaurant Institution Management to do design an outfit for their representative for Bininbining Kasuotang Pilipina(I think)..a tourism pageant that was part of the Annual Philippine Travel Mart held at the SM Megamall Megatrde Hall 3....I did this because it was required that the outfit was a Philippine costume and made of indigenous materials.......So i reinvented the Philippine Terno...

-the sleeves are made of different colors of wicker that was intertwined
-the skirt was made of different colors of guinit(from the palm tree)
-the corset was made of sinamay

I did not do everything...I had some help from workers, cousins, and some sewers...hehe!! Had to finish it in one week....but I was the only one doing the sleeves because it was not easy...

The contestant is Marie Umali who made it to the top 5 finalists...

*sorry the photo is blurry...it's the only ones available...this was during the pageant...

oh my. i could so see a softer texture, perhaps silk or something like that, as the skirt to be worn while wandering barefoot. i love the colors!
